Dometic 8cuft Refr question

What keeps running (for a while - hours) after I have finished my trip and turn the refr off? I would have thought when you turn the switch off EVERYTHING turns off, but apparently there is something "hotwired" by itself on a different ?dc circuit.

for a good answer we need a little more info Are you turning the battery disconnect off? Are you connected to shore power? It may be the cooling fans running in the chimney area.

Are you positive the noise is coming from the refrigerator?

Is your converter near the refrigerator? They have fans to cool when charging.

Model would be helpful.

No need for further questions/complications. Simple question/statement. It sounds like the fans in the "chimney area", but apparently off does not mean off like everything else on RV design - not engineered properly.

I guess when I unplug my refr in the house, ice will still be running.

Most all RV's by design have a source of 12V power that operates certain items and will continue to do so after shore power is disconnected. Our 5th wheel by design will allow you to operate the interior lights without shore power and the battery switch to off. I wouldn't say you have a poor design, but would say that you need to do some research on how your particular unit operates. When asking for help, it would serve you much better if you refrain from insulting the ones that are trying to help you, otherwise you will find yourself without help.

I'm not touchy, just know what I am doing. Disconnecting shore power has NOTHING to do with 12V power. Shore power is 120Vac! The converter changes 120Vac into 12Vdc to run items vs discharging the battery. And that is no longer available when the shore power is disconnected. But again, none of that has anything to do with the Battery Disconnect switch! that switch is there to disconnect the batteries, but in the unprofessional design of many RVs, TTs, ... some items are hard wired to the battery and are never turned off. The manufacturers are catering to the frankly lazy crowd that does not want to loose their programmed radio channels. Unless you are always going to the same place or only use it in your driveway, this should be a moot point!

Just like not having a lock on the propane door, a battery disconnect is not only there to prevent dead batteries due to discharge, but a mechanism to remove 100% of all 12Vdc in the event of an electrical fire. So yes it IS NOT ONLY A BAD DESIGN, But an IMPROPER ONE! And yes I did the research, that is why my unit is now done correctly after months of redoing their WRONG designs on many systems. Why do you thinks they don't provide system designs to customers?

BYW, I am an OEM in unrelated industry that actually knows what I am doing and talking about. Unlike too many, I do not post to comment or pass the day. If I can not assist by providing a solution or ask a serious question, I keep off the keyboard. No need to just criticize without providing a benefit to anyone except oneself.

Thanks for the clarification when I posted I did not realize you had figured things out and weren't asking for help. We could really use someone that actually knows something so please don't sit on your hands, hit the keyboard and help those that don't have the wisdom about systems or RVs like you do. thanks

I have often pondered this question myself. My radio does not seem to retain my preset channels anyhow. I am thinking of flipping the breaker when not on shore power for a while. Of course the I will just wear out the breaker. I probably should carry an extra anyhow.
