Door Gas Strut Bracket

OK folks...the bracket on the top of the door for the gas strut has broken loose from the door. It was only pop riveted into place and now has pulled loose and is allowing the door to open wide enough so it is hitting the edge of the slide for the living room. Anybody else had this problem and what is the solution? I thought about drilling out the pop rivets and putting sheet metal screws in but the material is so flimsy that I don't think it will last. Maybe just remove the gas strut and figure out a way to keep the door from hitting the slide edge when open. Looking for some ideas!

Drill the pop rivets out and re-rivet it with 3/16" dia rivets and make sure the head is on the door and not on the bracket. You might even add a 3rd rivet.
