Door support strut continually breaks

Have a 2017 GT 329DS. Bottom door support strut has been replaced under warranty once and failed again this week. It comes out of the bracket like it gets stripped and although you can screw it back in but it doesn’t hold the threading. Anybody have a workaround with either an outside bracket to hold the door open. I don’t care about the strut action that “assists” with the closing of the door

Looking at the outside of the door up high might be a place to secure a type of locking bracket to hold the door open. (One side screwed into the door face and the other side screwed into the side of the RV) Any ideas out there for those with a similar problem with the strut. I don’t see a lot of options. Thanks for the help!

Part # 127-647-02-01A. 1/4 inch aluminum rod Ordered from Lichtsinn RV. 1-800-343-6255. They also have the pad eye deck loops for it. Pad eyes mount to door and side of RV. Rod is about 13 inches long with a bend on each end which goes in the pad eyes. Rod is around $25.00. Eyes around $10.00.

Does yours have that triangular plate holding it to the floor? If so, is the "point" of the triangle pointing inwards or outwards? I know the 2019's have the "point" pointing inwards and that end pulls loose and bends and the strut pops off. The 2020's flipped it around to the "point" points out the door, meaning the two screws on the other side of the triangle are providing a lot more bracing when the door opens or blows open.

Do you leave the door open with just the screen door? What keeps it from blowing around in the wind?

Change the ends to the metal threaded insert instead of the plastic threads. Amazon has them. JR Products EF-PS30 10mm gas end fittings with steel spring. $5.06 for 2.

If it keeps breaking, I submit you’re leaving it in the open position when the wind is blowing around and weakening the bracket.
Would you leave your home door open if the weather was that bad?
Most things on RVs have to be lightweight and cannot be as strong as you might like.

“Windy” is relative. Even a light breeze will move a door around.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've ordered he metal threaded inserts and sure sounds like they will work instead of the plastic that keeps on stripping!!

Do you by chance have a picture of this. I went to Lichtsinn RV but their website had no pictures. Didn’t know if the rod length would fit properly to the space needed for the attachments on door and side of coach. Thx

I don’t have a picture but I will get one for you. The rod is 13 inches long so doesn’t use a lot of space.

I just found the part on amazon but have no idea how to post a picture on here. I went on amazon and entered Winnebago parts. Scrolled down until I found it.

That’s the entry door prop rod. Sold by Winnebago but will work on pretty much any RV.

We've had 4 RVs, this just happened to us at the beach, yep super windy. More that usual. That door flew open and POP. Can't decide now if I like it better without it.

Thank u for sending the picture. I will keep it in mind when my strut breaks again (dealer replaced under warranty a few weeks ago). I’m sure it won’t last.

That's what our old motorhome had from the factory. It definitely works.
