Do you mean they will only extend part way now? If so you probably bent them.

No, everything is normal, because I have a new assembly installed. I have had a lot of trouble the past couple of years, and was wondering if hitting a curb does damage, because that has happened with the old steps, and don't want to take that chance again. Gary

There has been times that our steps didn't go all the way down due to concrete slabs and objects too close to the site. We have never had any problems. I make sure they are in the up position before I move the coach.

Most steps have a built-in sensor. If the steps hit an obstacle, it will automatically stop the motor and leave the steps partially out. It does not damage the steps.

On our very first trip we extended the electric steps and hit a curb. The fuses blew and had a hell of a time trying to find where they were located. Once we did and borrowed a replacement from another camper all was well. Needless to say i bought a complete set a sapre fuses before my next trip. That is the only way to be sure that doesn't happen again

I don't want to hijack this thread, but is there anyway to disable the steps without just pulling the plug apart that is accessible in the battery compartment? You'd think there would be a switch to do so. But the switch for the steps doesn't shut it off, it just changes it to automatic operation with the ignition off. The reason we disable it is we are full timers and have entrance steps we use while we are in Texas. would be possible to replace the switch with one that has an off position in the middle?

The way the steps usually work is this:

If you switch the steps off, when you turn the ignition off, the steps will extend and retract when you open and close the door because they are connected to the ignition switch. The way to keep them from working is that, after you turn the ignition off, turn the step switch on. Leave the unit and shut the storm door, which should retract the steps, then open the access panel in the storm door, reach in and turn off the steps. The steps should remain retracted until you turn the switch or the ignition on.

Get a small rectangular magnet and place it next to the door sensor before you open the door. Ive been doing this since purchase.There is A tip about this somewhere in this forum.
