Emergency Exit Window

Just read a thread on another forum that got me thinking.
Has anyone tried opening the emergency rear window just to make sure it opens freely and doesn't stick in case its ever needed?
On a previous RV I owned they were designed to fall out if opened so I have never tried it on this one.

Mine has the lever arm so it can be opened regularly. Make SURE it latches solidly as wind can suck it open till it bangs against the sidewall and break.

I always check for free movement and "unstick" the seals and spray them with silicon during Spring Cleaning/dewinterizing.

Also DW would not survive the jump, so I bought a small 13 foot rolled safety escape ladder. http://www.amazon.com/Kidde-Two-Stor...+escape+ladder

The front (dinette) escape window has latches and the window has no hinge at the top. That one will fall out if opened, so be careful.

Funny you ask as I was thinking the same thing a few days back. Not sure if it's hinged or if it just comes off in case of an emergency.

You first.

Escape Window

I wonder what model of Hehr window our Georgetown's have? I would like to replace the back bedroom escape window with with one that has a slide or window that opens for ventilation. The two side windows don't do much to allow cross ventilation. Any ideas?

Mine is hinged. It was stuck though when I tried to open it doing spring maintenance. I carefully applied a little pressure in the lower corners and it opened. I just wiped and cleaned my seals similar to what Herk7769 does. Only difference is I used 303 spray on a rag.

I'll try that. +1 on using 303

Yup, hinged at top, I just propped the bottom open with an empty box I had at the time. I will probably clean and silicone spray the seals as well!

During camping season, I open mine daily for ventilation, especially while cleaning. I also show every new person that camps with us where they are and how to use them and have them open one. You never know if you will need them.....................I pray that no one ever needs them. I never thought of a roll up escape ladder.. Will have check into those.

That's okay Herk.

Some day you might make the switch over to the good side!

Ha ha! One thing I have learned on this MH is that if I wait long enough, sooner or later you will take it apart, then show a better way to put it back together. Figured you would have had that window open by now.

Seriously, thanks everyone for the input. I pray we never have to use it but good to know it can be opened and gaskets maintained to prevent sticking just in case it's ever needed. Most of the time our rear curtain is down so its easy to forget about it.

Exclamation Why Does My Emergency Windows Have Screens????

Hi Everyone!!!

I recently purchased a 2013 27' Forest River Work & Play. I noticed that the windows in the "garage" and in the bedroom had labels on them stating that they are for emergency exits only. But why do they have screens???? Can I open them for ventilation? It kinda stinks that I only have the kitchen and living room windows to open for ventilation ...and the door...and ceiling fans.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated
Thank you!

Having forgotten to re-latch that "Emergency Exit" once (or bumped it getting out of bed), I can tell you it is an expensive mistake.

I have since drilled and pinned the arm with a streamer'ed safety pin so I can see the tail to make sure it's installed prior to closing up. Photo was taken before adding the "Install before Flight" streamer!

My coach has a rather small window above the dresser drawers. Being tall and slim it would still be hard to get out, especially feet first. Wife would probably get stuck. Don't tell her I said that! I hate to think of even trying.

I've never thought about giving the emergency exit windows an annual "test open and shut" cycle... not a bad idea. Sweet Wife says she was unaware the trailer even HAD emergency exits.

Shame on me.

The exit window in the bedroom has a screen and is meant to also be used for ventilation, but in 10 years we have never opened it. The exit window over the dining table has no screen, (that is, the part you would crawl out through) there is a small section of that assembly that cranks open (with a screen)
