"Extra" wire on step?

My new Georgetown has the Lippert Electric step, and there is a wire just hanging loose from the control panel. The wiring diagram refers to a purple wire that is used for a step light switch, apparently an optional connection to the porch light. I thought the wire looked black, but it is pretty dark under there, and could be purple. Is it normal for FR to just leave this wire hanging out like that?

Mine was the same way. There where two wires just hanging out, not connected to anything. One was ground, one was some control wire I didn't need. I looked them up.

Also there is a light under there, but it was burned out. So I replaced the bulb in it with an LED one. Kinda nice. Too bad the light is only on when the step is in auto mode.

I have modified the step light to come on with the outside amber light above the door..seemed to make more sense than in auto mode.

That sounds like a bright idea!
