Factory Tour Today
I had the opportunity today to tour the Georgetown manufacturing facility. If you are looking for a slick, fully computerized, built by robot facility, this ain't it. There are some computerized areas (cutting jigs, etc.), but people predominate the proces. If you expect to see workers hustling, carefully concentrating on their tasks you won't be disappointed.
The building process is impressive. A bare chassis comes in one end and complete units roll out the other end. Seeing roof and side walls assembled and attached as one piece, the end caps attached, seeing how the wiring and plumbing are run may prove beneficial at some point.
They confirmed that my unit is scheduled on the line for the 28th. The bad news is that it will be another 8+ weeks for delivery (the full body paint takes a little longer  ).

What a refreshing find, I hate to say it but....
all this time i thought they just threw these things together.
sidewalls coming off
hoses leaking
furniture wareing out before its time
stairs that don't work so good
I'm sure there's things i'm leaving out.
But, I did like the price and I got what I paid for.

Mine was a 1 on 1 tour. Got a lot of questions asked and answered. I carried my camera throughout the tour. I just forgot to use it...

picture taking was allowed when we toured last September.
It's not like you're going to steal any "state of the art" manufacturing
processes.

For those of us going to thr FR Rally in Goshen, let's talk Bob Byrne into setting up some tours of the Georgetown factory. They don't like to do that because it is the old Champion factory built in the 1960's and designed to build 24 foot units.
A couple of us did that last year and were surprised how well these things are put together in spite of the old factory. And it's partly like a car assembly plant. Lots of sub-assemblies brought in and then assembled. But still lots of point to point wiring and hand assembled stuff.
