Put a couple of 360d vertical loops in the vent hose and fix the problem without valves.
The problem is that you can not go up with the line as that it comes out of top of the tank at the very top of the compartment. There is no way to go up before the vent drops down on Georgetown 378.

Put the vertical loops to the side of the tank, they don't have to be above the tank. Did it on fuel line vents in race cars for years to keep the fuel in the tank in case of a roll over.
