Filling Fresh Water Tank - Water drains out

I own a 2015 GT 328ts. Every time I fill the fresh water tank to full, water drains out through a pipe under the kitchen slide and my fresh water tank is now near empty. My pump is off and I cannot stop the water from draining out. If I only fill the tank to about 1/2 full, it doesn't drain out. What is going on with this water draining out?

You are probable over filling it. The water starts draining out the over flow and sets up a siphon effect. Try Feelin It three quarters or 90% full and stopping see if that solves the problem.

That pipe is the vent for the holding tank. It will let you know when the tank is full. Yes, there will be a syphoning effect created and it will continue till the water level drops below the vent tube insert level. This issue is common and a plethora of inputs can be read if you do a FRF search for the issue. I was able to just make a vertical loop in my tubing and that allowed me to completely fill the tank with no syphoning but there are other ideas if you do the search.

Lots of threads on this. Common fix is to put a cap or valve on the end of the vent tube. Then just fill until water starts coming out the vent and close the valve. After a couple of showers you can open the valve.

Yep... usually all caused by the routing (or lack) of the vent tube.
You will need to look at how it was routed and reposition or replace.
Also, many have simply put a 1/4 turn valve in the line.
If you do, just make sure you open it when filling or once you start drawing water from the tank.
It's a vent for a reason.

Had same problem. Took to dealer was told "oh you shouldn't travel with water. Fill up when you get where u are going". Called factory warranty department told same thing. Best you can do is put valve on end of vent hose.

Agree. We haven't installed a valve, but we don't fill the tank before travel either - just enough to use the toilet. Besides, a full tank can put extra weight on the supports that hold the tank in place, and that's another topic in itself!

X2
I only fill about 1/4 of a tank for toilet flushing while driving to next campground. I have never filled my tank up full as we do not dry camp for any extended period of time.

I would suggest a valve with a float ball in it so when you fill the tank it will shut off the vent when it is full then when you start using water from the tank it will drop back open. If you put a valve on the tank that seals it off you will collapse the tank if you forget to open it back up again.

Pretty poor when you cannot fill a FW tank for fear of it dropping in the road.... Don't say much for quality construction.

same

had same problem with my 2017 model. Took it to dealer and they put a valve
at the end of drain hose. Your water is being siphoned out. So with that valve on I open it when filling, until water runs out, showing tank is full. Then close the valve to keep it from siphoning out.

Sounds to me like the up is no issue but the down is a BIG issue.

If I couldn't haul a full tank of water down the road, I'd be getting a different rig.

When mine starts to siphon, I blow back in the vent tube and break the siphon. Yes, just blow into the tube and you will know if you have broken the siphon action because no more water comes out. No valve to forget to open if this works for you.

The water pump check valve remains open and allows the siphon to continue. Here is the procedure I used and seemed to work for e. Has not happened to me again:

Turn off water pump if on.
Turn on any faucet wait 1 min
Turn on water pump
let water run 1 min
Turn off faucet
turn off water pump
Wait for water pump to quit running
Turn on city water

This reseats the check valve in the water pump. Do not run the water pump when connected to city water.

If you will shut the FILL VALVE after the tank is full it will stop the siphon.
