Yep electric and it uses about as much juice as your toaster.

Actually about 25% more than the average toaster.
If you really want to know, a 1500 watt electric heater will consume 12.5 amps of electricity for every second it is on on high setting. For a typical 30 amp service post that is more than 1/3 of the available power.

Hey donn, We enjoy our fireplace in the morning to take the chill off and it's nice to think I'm burning more electricity toasting my Bagel even if it's not right.

thanks for all the info. as you can tell we are new to the camping. we had a 28 ft trailer 30 years ago.
is it safe to say, if the fireplace will use 1/3 of the power on a 30 amp post. then a 2011, 378 would need a 50 amp post, if set up for awhile. is their a guage for the set up on power.
thanks for all the help.

The electric fireplaces are nice, we bought one from Lowe's and put it in our cabin.

Didn't go ballistic. I was merely pointing out that an electric fireplace consumes a lot of electricity. Especially if you are on only a 30 amp circuit. While I believe most RV's with the fireplace option are 50 amp that does not guarantee you have 50 amps at the pole. And FYI 25 percent is a lot of difference.
