Ford Engine AC Compressor

I took my Georgetown to the local Ford truck dealer to have the compressor replaced. It was covered in oil and the clutch would not operate. Service manager said it was a common problem on motor homes but not on the same chassis trucks and vans. From experience he said the O ring on the casing blows out. Has anyone had a similar problem and could it be caused by the Evans air handler?

My 2012 had a AC compressor failure and it was replaced by Ford last year.
I also have read here and heard about this failure from many others.

My dash A/C went out and have a call into the Ford dealer it blows cool air but not cold. Hope its just low on Freon and not the compressor that went out. How can you tell the difference?

I also had my compressor replaced under warranty. It was leaking oil.

Same situation here. I had the dash air conditioning compressor on my 2010 replaced by Ford under warranty when the Georgetown was two years old. The seal in the compressor was leaking oil, and the technician said it was a common problem on the F53 chassis. No service bulletin from Ford was listed at the time, and the compressor was replaced with the same model.

I make a point of running the dash air conditioning at least once a month to keep the seal lubricated. So far, no further problems.

Got the Georgetown back from the Ford dealer with a bill of $850.00. Now looking into a warranty program for the engine. 50000 mile power train does not cover the AC, alternator etc (but does cover water pump) and my coach warranty does not cover the engine or chassis bits. The reman AC compressor has a 2 year warranty and the dealer did a system vacuum before adding Freon so we should be good to go. Watch this space for updates!!!!

Ramair, Look at the AC compressor under the right side of the engine, if it's covered in oil it's toast!!!

Is your Georgetown outside of the warranty period of 3 years, 36,000 miles? Is that why you had to pay for the replacement and service?

For guys out of warrantee it is no big deal to change yourself then take it to a shop to have the freon put in. Compressor with clutch brand new off the net $250 and a half hour of my time plus $80 for the freon fill. Three bolts, two hoses, one plug done from under the camper.

My 2010 Georgetown had compressor replaced 2 yrs ago but twice since then the dash A/C blows hot air; once when driving they Vegas with above 100 degrees and 2 weeks ago when crawling in interstate for an hour due to an accident. The temp outside was 110. Dash air blew hot and I shut it off. Two hrs later after clearing accident and back at speed it blew cool air. Went to Ford service and they suggested fan clutch, low freon or maybe compressor again. It will take $200 to look at it.

Anybody know if installing an electric fan has solved the problem that the condenser is not getting enough air flow?

well checked A/C Compressor and the clutch is engaging and no sign of oil around the unit. May be low of Freon, but will have them check for any leaks. Will update when its completed.

Mine was replaced three times, all under warranty. Also had to have the blower motor replaced twice.

If there isn't a electric fan that would do it because you weren't getting enough air across the condenser coil also sitting at idle with engine rpm below 1200 to 1500 rpm the compressor isn't moving enough refrigerant. Best thing to do if stuck in stopped traffic for long periods is to idle your engine up to 1200 rpm to keep the a/c working and have an electric condenser fan if possible but if not idling the engine up will help a lot.

My compressor failed after one year. Replacement is now two years old and no problem so far. Warranty covered the replacement. Ford must be losing big bucks onthis problem.
