Ford V10 Maintenance
I’ve had our RV dealer change the oil on the engine and on the generator, 3 times and we have 10,000 miles on the 2016.
I feel weird about taking the rig into a Ford dealership to let them due the general maintenance. I have a hard time letting anyone just drive it. Does anyone else have an issue with this? Or do I just need to get over it? I’ve called around and I know who can handle it or at least get it in their shop. But I really have a hard time letting go. Any suggestions?

Yes, I understand but I would trust Ford more, you need to just let go. I would trust Ford more then my dealer. They can also check everything which your dealer can't. I have never had luck with dealers myself, I would rather have a trained mechanic do it. Maybe next year for you.

You know we’re pretty fortunate. We have a pretty amazing dealership that does great work. But I’ll go with your thoughts.

Since my dealer is too fast to drive to I go to the Ford dealership. I feel like they would now more about an F53 chassis. They also change the oil for only $52.50 total while I wait. The generator I change myself.
I figure I save at least a hundred bucks.

I've taken mine to ford dealer myself for the last 2 years. 70$ Ford dealer is 10 miles rv dealer is 60. I change the generator oil myself.

I have experienced excellent service from a commercial tire and truck shop. He now does all of my engine, lubrication and tire needs. Pull thru bays. All certified techs. Melbourne, FL

I know how your feel, but. My local Ford dealer has a separate truck/large vehicle service shop with extra large bays, lifts, etc. that can accomodate my Georgetown. They change the oil and (are supposed to) check all the under carriage things according to a checklist. I don't trust anyone outside of my sight and just keep my fingers crossed I'm not throwing money away. The oil and filter are new, I know after they have the rig. Every other change I do it myself.

I have my local Ford dealer do all my maintenance as well. They have the large bays and lifts required and they do an oil change / service for about $50.00. If I ever have any engine issues all my maintenance records will show a Ford dealer doing the required services at the scheduled times.

Who can fit your Georgetown?
I guess the topic will be defined by “how far away is your local Ford dealer that can fit your Georgetown?”
My local Ford dealers (3 of them within an hour) cannot accommodate a vehicle as large as my motorhome. I use a local trustworthy garage nearby (1/2 hour) and we schedule my oil, filter and steering rack lubrication on clear weather days, where he does the work outside using a crawler underneath. I position it for them, and I’m nearby for any restart of the engine for the new oil level reading.
Any bigger work, I need to take it to a Ford dealer over an hour away with my toad, because he controls the workload using the larger service bays effectively, and calls me when it’s ready to pick up. He services all kinds of big rigs, so I have to trust them negotiating a motorhome.

So while we're on the topic, how often is everyone changing their oil? I do mine myself, as it's fairly simple and have the place to do it. I change my oil every 5000. That was the recommendation of the the Ford Tech at Goshen. I think he said the manual says every 7500, but prefers the 5000 mile mark. The generator gets changed every 75-100 hours. It's a bigger pain than the engine because of the SSSLLLOOOWWW oil fill.

I called one of the major Ford dealerships here and they do all the fleet work, and they can handle the rig. Thank you

I don't trust Ford dealers any more than RV dealers.............the last time I took mine to a Ford dealer, they cracked the slide and then denied it. Cost me $1000.00. I now use a truck repair shop whose owner has a similar MH to do my maintenance. Works out great, they are familiar with both the chassis and coach, and I get better service to boot.

May I ask what they were doing with the slide during a oil change? How was it cracked? Interesting. Why were they even in the back of the coach? Makes me think now.

I would suggest you think of your safety. It would be good to have your RV looked at & feel that most places are wanting to keep your business & will take good care of it. I hope that helps you feel better about letting go.
