Forest River Contact that can assist with Georgetown parts

Hi All,
Had a blow out on the inside driver's side rear dually coming back from Moab last week. When the tire blew it tore up the basement compartment box that houses all of my water connections and controls. I need a replacement plastic box that is the basement compartment.

Looking for a good contact at Forest River who can help me find the part.

Any help there would be appreciated.

So sorry to hear about your troubles.

I too had a need for a "model specific" part and tried to get one from the FR Parts Department. I ran into an odd part of the manufacturer/dealer agreement regarding FR shipping "parts" to non-dealers/authorized repair shops.

Don't be surprised if you hit that wall and bounce.

However, do not panic.

1) Try your dealer. He will order the part and while you may pay shipping and retail, you can be assured of getting what you need.

2) Try a local repair shop with which you have a good working relationship. They may order the part for you and get "authorized repair" status at the same time.

3) Try a "surplus parts" place online like: Bontragers Surplus Inc. | or Welcome to RV Parts Nation your #1 source for all RV Parts and RV Accessories. or Factory RV Surplus or similar. They can also sell "recovered" parts that will work like new at a fraction of new pricing.

Thanks Herk! I also just did a quick search for Forest River contacts and came up with a few names to call.
I was a little shocked and disappointed when I saw the damage the tire blow out caused.

Its a big tire. My little 15 inch one caused the fender to rip right off when it went and I spotted it (heard it!) almost immediately.

Wow, I had the same tire blow on our way home from FL to Kentucky last week. Luckily, I had zero damage.

Do you know what caused yours?

My outside tire was low and I added air but I think it softened and rubbed the inner tire causing it to overheat and blow. Just a theory at this point.

i am a big fan of pressure/temp monitors....i use the TST ones.....

saves the guesswork, and makes driving at night easier, for me anyway....

The cause was probably the age of the tires. I bought my MH new and these were the original tires and according to the dates on the sidewall (3507) they were almost 8 years old. I took very good care of them - kept them covered while in storage and off the ground. I checked the pressure of all the tires a couple of days before and all were at 90 PSI.
The tire simply exploded - so I don't think I ran over a nail or anything like that - was doing 65 mph when it happened.
I have a shiny new set of 6 tires now!
Now the project starts on replacing the water compartment box, because the blowout shredded the front of the box. Luckily, all of the connections and controls are still functional. Just damaged the basement compartment and tore up or lost items stored beneath the water connection panel. Sewer drains are okay too.

When calling dealerships for parts pricing be sure to call a few different dealerships as retails price can and will vary greatly.

I needed another new fender skirt for our Wildcat, the local dealership said the price would be $111 plus crate and shipping charges. I would have to pay for the part before they would order it. And then pay for crate and shipping when it arrived and the knew the amount total.

Called my selling dealership that is 1,000 miles away and place the order, fender skirt plus shipping and handling cost me $77 delivered to my door here in Texas.

Edit....I would take it to a certified Georgtown dealer and get an estimate then if you are able take the insurance money and fix it yourself. If it was mine I'd go ahead and have them do all the work.

I'm guessing it will come under comprehensive and not collision?
Maybe they will buy you a new tire?

I'm taking it to a reputable shop in Denver that specializes in repairs like this on RVs and Semis - the insurance company recommended them and the insurance company guarantees their work. I was thinking about doing it myself before I found out my insurance covers it - now that it's paid for I'm going to let them handle it. 😃

No new tire, but the damage is all covered so I'm happy. 😃 Insurance company said they could have done something on the tire if it was 4 years old or less.
