Fresh Water tanks keeps filling magically......

While hooked up to city water with regulator over the past 3 days my fresh water tank fills slowly over a day or two. I have to drain it and the whole thing startes all over again.

I have read others who thought that the back flow valve in the pump was stuck open and it was slowly back feeding city water thru the pump and into the fresh water tank. This seems the only way it is possible.

When I get Home I plan draining fresh water tank and disconnecting the hose coming out of the tank while still hooked up to city water and see what happens.

I have read about the siphon problems others have had but don't think that is my problem.

I know someone replaced the pump thinking it had a bad vavle internally but it didn't solve the problem either.

So lets think about this and see who else has this issue.

Thanks

Have never had the issue. Was thinking if you moved the winterizing valve to the pickup line line position you could easily check the theory.

I experienced this exact same problem - definitely was a faulty check valve in the water pump. Parts are available from Sureflo for a do-it-yourselfer, but dealer replaced the entire pump assembly (was still under warranty). Probably cheaper than labor costs to repair the pump.

Iggy, good idea to check the backflow preventor on the pump.

I'm planning on try that method to check mine. I don't have the FW tank filling...we usually don't have water hook-ups. My pump runs 1 sec every 1/2 hour though no water is being used. I suspect the pump's check valve causing pressure loss as I have no leaks in the system that I can see.

I just sent them an email to Shurflo about the symptoms and asked them what they would suggest.

We will keep you posted

I have the same issue of pump intermittently running also, so subscribing to see what Shurflo has for a remedy. I pulled my pump out and made sure nothing was in the check valve and put back together. Pump doesn't run as much now but still an issue.

My pump doesn't run intermittently at all because I'm on city water at the time of the magic filling of the tank.

The pump turning on and off means some where you are losing pressure or the actual regulater in the pump is faulty.

Make sure that your outside shower has both valves shut.

The only way city water can fill the fresh water tank is a leaky check valve in the water pump.

Replacing the pump is easy and inexpensive.

Shurflo Water Pump 2.8 Gpm Premier Demand RV

or you can buy a replacement pump head (but it costs almost as much as an entire new pump.

My email to Shurflo paid off.
I sent them a message with my symtoms and a picture of the pump model.
They just replied and will be sending me a repair kit for the backflow valve in the pump. I told them up front that I'm capable of doing the repairs myself.

Message
John:
I’ll send a kit to the address below.

Sorry for the problem!

Glad you found your problem. I never used my water tank and pump yet because we are always on city water but I have my tank filled half way but my panel inside says empty.
