Freshwater Tank Filling while on City

I have a 2014 XL377, and for the first time ever, while hooked to the city water input valve, my freshwater tank is slowly filling and overflowing of course. A fellow RV'r told me that there is a backflow device (or something similar) that is most likely the culprit? Does anyone know if this is true, and if so where is it and how do I fix this? It's sort of frowned up on to be leaking water while tailgating. :-)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Leaking

More than likely the problem is your water pump check valve partially open with debris. Check with the search feature for "check valve water pump." I had the same problem awhile ago. Hope this helps

Thanks JoePK, I will look it up. I did notice that the water pump was leaking when I had the valve to it turned open. But when I closed it the water kept filling the tank.

I had exactly the same issue and the resolution was when the dealer winterized the unit they opened/closed (can’t remember which) a bypass valve with the hot water. Fresh tank slowly filled and our hot water was only lukewarm.

To reset the water pump check valve, I suggest the following which worked for me a couple of times:

Turn off city water
Turn off water pump if on.
Turn on any faucet wait 1 min
Turn on water pump
let water run 1 min
Turn off faucet
turn off water pump
Wait for water pump to quit running
Turn on city water

This reseats the check valve in the water pump. Do not run the water pump when connected to city water.

If this does not work, there are rebuild kits or a new water pump to fix this problem. DO Try 360true's procedure first!

Found lots of help on here when it happens to me. My problem was the campground water pressure was too high. I put my regulator in and the problem was resolved. I also bought a brass check valve at Lowe’s and installed it. No problems since.

For 18 years never had this problem. Finally it happened. Bad check valve in pump. Installed a new pump. Previously ShurFlow sold out to another company. One year later, same problem. This time I installed a separate check valve in the line. Hopefully that solved the problem. Quality is on the way down!

Yup!

Don't replace the water pump or even try to fix it with that plastic check valve kit...

Buy this brass one (see photo below) at Camping World or other RV parts store and it will fit with no adapters (unlike the ones you'll get at Lowe's, Home Depot or Ace Hardware) for under $15 bucks, and it will probably last longer than you'll own your RV.

Takes all of 5 minutes to install...

Had the same problem. Noticed water pump would not stop running. Hooked up to city water and fresh tank filled. Tried the method given and worked perfectly. Thanks!

I had a similar problem on my 2018 36B5 unit this past summer and didn't understand why. Thanks for the tips and parts information. I will look into it next time I have that issue. It happened while hooked up to water at a campground, I suppose it could have been from accidentally turning on o having on the water pump. Not sure, it didn't do it again yet. Thanks to you all who commented.
