Georgetown steps, bolt failures
I went back to day and checked the steps. No grinding and worked normally. I left witness marks on the ball joint stud, the nut and the gear plate driving this assembly. I show it both steps deployed and stowed. No slippage today. Big slip/grind yesterday, probably 90 deg rotation of stud/nut to plate. I'm becoming convinced esp after some peoples description the bolt sheared off. The action I saw left to continue would "shear" or hacksaw the stud until it fails. I cannot see enough force by applying weight to the steps causing the failure. I also marked the big center piot bolt with allen head bolt. Much heavier construction though. The steps are are rated for 750 lbs. Any other ideas? Its easy to see once marked, I'll keep and eye on it and advise. Hope this will someday prevent a skinned shin bone!
