Georgetown Converter

Does anyone know if the new Georgetowns use a 3 stage converter/charger? I am concerned about leaving my coach plugged in to shore power during winter storage.

Unless they've changed recently the converter is a 2 stage. If left plugged in you'll need to keep a close eye on the fluid levels in all of the batteries. My inverter has a 3 stage charger and converter so my original converter is unplugged. You may want to look into a Battery Tender. They have numerous chargers that will maintain the batteries without boiling them away.

At least in 2009 the converters were Parallax 7400 series converters, 7455 (55amp) in my case. These are single stage and not very good at quick charging. They simply try to bring and hold the batteries to 13.8 volts. Parallax maintains it's safe to leave it connected but check the water levels Parallax FAQ

Our 2011 378TS has the same Parallax 7455 converter. However we took a tour of the factory in Elkhart this past July and they were putting Progressive Dynamics 3 stage converters in them at that time. They have the built in Power Wizard in them. Progressive makes a direct repalcement 4 stage charger for the Parallax converters. They are the 4600 series and come in 55, 45 and 35 amp. A good place to check these out is www.bestconverter.com. I plan on replacing mine soon. We are fulltimers and the Parallax is probably ok for us because we never put our motorhome in storage and we are using the batteries at all times. But, still replacing it as these multi-stage converters are much better, and its a relatively easy replacement.
