Georgetown Door separating

I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I have a 2014 Georgetown 335DS and have had very minor issues with it. My wife and I are full timers and when I was preparing for next adventure I notice the bottom of the door was separating by the hinge when the door is closed but comes together when the door is open.
Currently I am not close to a dealer and was wondering if anyone new of a fix I could do. I do have the extended warranty but don't want to lose it to a dealer for months

Your picture is invalid and you may have to try again.
With what you described you have a few options being out of warranty.
Being a 2014 I haven't heard of any doors separating like you described.

1. Get the door replaced which would be costly by your dealer.

2. Find a local RV salvage and see if they have something that will work.
You still will have to have it installed and painted.

3. DIY fix would be to drill a hole thru the door at the location of delamination and install some type of bolt/washer setup to pull it back together and just live with it. This would be the least expensive method.



4. Take it to the FROG Rally in Goshen and write it up as a issue on the form and see if Forest River will replace.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry about the pictures I uploaded them from the site. I will see what went wrong. My extended warranty should cover the door. I will just have to locate a dealer that will do it in a timely matter.

You can also drill a small hole in the center of the delamination and inject epoxy, clamp, and let dry

It's what boat owners do.

Thanks for that idea. I hadn't thought of injecting epoxy. That might be an easier fix

You can even get an acrylic bathtub repair kit to fill the hole. I used one once and you have to look hard to see where the patch was.

My door did something like that. It was caused by the door opening up to fast and stopping by the way of the gas strut pulling the door apart at the frame. Forest River replaced the door. But it was under warranty. I really think it is a design flaw.
Contact Forest River and many they will help out some or all.

Thanks for that info. I will contact them Monday. I also have the extended warranty so I think it should be covered.

What I meant was if you had to drill hole in the door to inject the resin through. In your case it looks way easier to fix than I originally thought.

If you can remove the door simply put it on a sawhorse and inject fibreglass resin (epoxy) between the delaminated sections, clamp, and let dry. Make sure to use proper epoxy resin, not 5 minute epoxy. Generally, the slower it cures, the better it glues.

As to the door shock, mine open slowly, unless the wind takes, then all bets are off!

Mine was not delaminating. It was the frame separating from the door because of the load the door was putting on the hinges when the door extended all the way out and the shock was putting a bind on the hinge.

Sorry I misunderstood what was happening. It looks like the aluminum channel that runs around the outside of the door is separating from the centre core.

Look all the way around and check if there is a joint that opened up.

The channel is separating, in my case it was the spring shock and the door binding when opening up too much
I heard others doing that same thing
I am thinking of adding a second shock or a strap like what is on the cargo door.

The two screws at base of door belonging to the piston pulled out. I ve repaired and added a strap to the door handle.
I now have control in easing the door out as I exit and pulling the door shut in a much easier fashion when inside the door

Sorry no photo @ this time. Simply looking for solution I found "woven parachute cord bracelets" w/plastic clips/connectors. Bought 2, linked together then looped through the door handle and snapped ends together. These provide a guiding leash for the door while exiting and you can actually be walking in the RV and pull the door closed while entering. Linked together they add Abt a 7 or 8 inch leash. Strangely found at Home Depot when "the light bulb lite up" but have seen elsewhere.
