Georgetown GTX MPG

I am considering purchasing a 2009 GTX (toy hauler) with a GM 8.1 gas engine. I plan on carrying inside a Smart car weighing 1800 lbs. My question is: What can I expect to be approximately my gas mileage?

Welcome to the forums.

I don't think the smart cars get as good mileage as you would think they do.

O.K. just kidding there. Most RVs of this size will usually get somewhere between 6 and 8mpg. I have to say I had never considered a smart car with a toy hauler but it's a great idea. I would love to see pictures when you have it loaded up.

Be happy with 6 mpg. The best way to do that is expect 4 mpg. That GM gasser is gonna drink a lot. If you travel over mountains, it will drink more. It really doesn't matter what the mileage is, as long as you stop and fill it before it runs out. I'm not trying to obnoxious, but do you ever think that the smart car will pay for itself? You can get a good deal on a used Camry right now, and for the mileage difference, and the battery maintenance, and other issues with a "Smart Car", are they really worth it?

Windrider, I don't think the Smart Car is a hybrid, with the related battery issues. The prices start at ~$12,000. Check out: http://www.usa.smart.com/

pmann, this seems like an excellent idea, compared to the traditional pull behind method for a car. I wonder if the weights and lengths of the Smart Car are going to be within the stats of the Georgetown ?? I talked to the dealer of a similar MH at an RV show, and he said the garage capacity was 1500 lbs., and can't readily find the weights of the Smart Car.

I checked out a Smart Car at a recent auto show, and those puppies are sweet. Considering that the entire body is kinda it's own roll cage, the IIHS rates the crash ratings fairly high for such a small car.

Check out:

As y'all might tell, I am impressed with these little cars.

I've got an Itasca 35j with the Chevy engine and I'm averaging a little over 6 pulling a Mini Cooper ragtop. The car weighs in at around 2500 lbs and I tow it flat. The thing is so light I have to turn the camera on regularly to see if it is still there.

BTW, we are supposed to get a look at the 2010 Berkshire 390bh this week, so my days with the gasser may be limited.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Windrider, you have confused the Mercedes Smart car with something else. The Smart car can be gas or diesel powered, pending what country you live in. They are extremely fuel efficient and very reliable.
The interior cargo area weight capacity of a GXT is 2000 lbs, and the Smart car weighs in at 1834 lbs, so it works quite nicely. I have several pics from Forest River with a Smart car inside a GXT.

Man!! You ask a question about the coach and everyone rags you about the smart car!! My thoughts are: Can't you find a GTX on the Ford chassis? Ford did not ask for yours or my tax dollars to get back on track. REWARD FORD! is my battle cry!!

I realize this post is old but I wondered if he got the Smart car and how it fit in the GTX.

I have a 2009 and it has 35000 miles, and my overall average, based on my gas log is 7.9 mpg. This is with a 2005 Gold wing trike in the back that weighs 1000 lbs.
