Georgetown V10 Maintenance

Being a proactive guy I'm always wanting to check ahead about my maintenance on the 2012 Ford Chassis and engine.

So here are a few more questions that my good friends canhelp answer.

Type and weight oil?
Regular Ford Motorcraft SAE 10W20 oil or semi or full synthetic?

Do you have Ford do all you maintenance or do you do as much on your own?

What does Ford charge for a rig this size for basic oil change, chassis lube and tire rotation?

Thanks

Firm believer in Mobil 1 Synthetic. I have used it in all my vehicles since 1978 when Smokey Yunich suggested it to me for my new 78 Chevy 1/2T pu. My present 05 Silverado has it in the motor, transmission & rearend.

Weight would depend on your driving conditions. I use 15w50 and get it at Wally World in the 5qt containers

New rig? Your truck was only a year old. Why the switch?

Oh I kept my new 2011 Ford F-250. I can't get rid of that..

Yes we sold our 2011 Rockwood 8285WS 5th wheel. Nothing wrong with it but my DW was having issues climbing up the steep narrow steps into the bedroom area. I just decided it was a accident ready to happen one night coming down so I decided lets trade for a Georgetown.
We're all very happy on the decision. Now we are planning the trips for 2012 and into 2013.

I WOULD NOT USE synthetic oil till its well broken in!
After that I would recommend it.
I like mobile one as well and it seems its always on sale.
I would also recommend using fords guidelines for oil weight
For your usage and weather factors

I do all my own and other peoples maintenance...lots of people opt to use the motorcraft synthetic blend, we get it at autozone. Its affordable and has the ford name on it so lots of people are cozy with warranty issues, if they ever arrise they can say "i put motorcraft oil in it"...not that it actually means anything but people are people. I personally run valvoline durablend in my v-10 that we tow big and heavy with and wifes 5.4 expedition, I ran it in my 5.4 250work truck till 200000 miles when i went to thier HIGH MILEAGE stuff to slow down oil consumption. We run nuthin but valvoline full synthetic diesel 5w 40 in the 20 Plus 93-2010 powerstrokes we have (i know the early 7.3 isnt a powerstroke) My fater runs a 2004 v-10 class c e450 and runs the durablend also----pretty sure he runs 5w30...thats what i run in ours

I do my own oil changes. Filling is a little tricky with the 5qt jugs under that hood.
Mobile 1, 6qts
Ford recommended 5W-20
Motorcraft FL-820s filter

and drive.......

v 10s require that u use 5 20 due to the low tolerances in the cylinders...From my perspective synthetic oil is a waste of money.

I use the Motorcraft 5-20 semi/820s filter. Its whats recommended and Walmart sells cheap. As noted clearance for filling is limited. Have to use 1 qt bottles or pump to put mine in. Check your drain plug location. Mine is right over the axle. I need to place drain pan on axle to avoid making a mess. Mine is a 2007 so a few things may have changed. Nothing real hard just a few quirks. Now the air filter is a bit of a challenge. While your at Walmart you may want to pick up some store brand atf for the lift / slide system if thats what Lippert still uses for fluid. Wix web-site can cross the generator filter numbers for you. Around here the bumper to bumper auto stores carry Wix's. Look at your manual in 2007 Ford used a somewhat specializied ATF fluid for the transmission. If they still do a quart or two would be handy to have before you need to find one in tim-buck too.

John, just yesterday at 27,000 miles my 2011 F-250 the computer, as I was told it would do, told me to change my oil, oil Filters and air filters. Found a FORD dealer and went in at 4:45 and dropped my 5th wheel in the yard and at 5:10 we left, leaving dirty filters and nasty looking oil and 250.00. When I used the Ford dealer last year in Casa Grande they used that Deep Purple synthetic and my Ford dealer in Mi said to use just the synthetic blend. That's what they used yesterday. Before oil and filter change I was getting 9.5 MPG all though the MO. mountains and today we were getting as high as 11MPG. Now that's pulling that 15,500 Cedar Creek 5th wheel @ 75MPH where the speed allowed it and of course 65 all day in IL because they forgot to raise the limet..lol
Don't know about that Georgetown, but I would check a Ford Truck dealer and see what they recommend, then you can always do the work yourself. But to protect the Ford warranty, I think I'd let Ford do the work and keep good records of all service transactions.
You can put a lot of beer in that big fridge.

Thank you. I have always believed Ford suggestions was always the best way to go. I have used Ford oil in my F-250 6.0l Powerstroke, F-250 gas 6.2L and will take care of my V10 with Ford oil from Walmart.

you wouldn't think its a waste of money if you would take oil samples with "normal" oil and "synthetic" oil and have them analyzed .
just sayin .

You're all close, Ford requires 5W-20 syn oil in recent years, needs 7 quarts. Change interval is 7500 miles for the V-10 Tridton. Last V-10 I had was 6 quarts 6000 miles but times are a changin.

Page 126 of owners manual does say it take 7 quarts of oil.
I also says that you can use either

Motorcraft SAE 5W20 Premium Synthetic blend motor oil (US) XO-5W20-QSP
This is not 100% Synthetic but a misture or reg oil and Synthetic. This is what I use in my F-250 PU with the 6.2L gas engine

Motorcraft SAE 5W20 Super Premium Motor Oil (Canada) CXO-5W20-LSP12

Why would they say Canada and US at the end of each? Hummmm

You're correct, I used "syn" as a generic term. There are quite few blends available and Ford publishes a long list of approved oils. My point was it should be used to protect the warranty. US standards are "API", guess the the Canada version is CPI?
