We bought a Rand-McNally/RV 7725 2 years ago because our Garmin took us up a "life-threatening" route into Yosemite. Anybody been on Old Priest's Trail? Don't! Okay, common sense should've told us not to do that, but when the computer says do it, it has to be right, right? Anyway, we pretty much like this one because 1) in RV mode it warns us of hills, curves, impending speed limit changes, etc. 2) it has a video input for my TV backup camera (license plate mounted).

jrmartin67: If you want a spare, let me know. Make an offer and I'll let it go cheap! Something about me and that thing just did not get along. It works fine, just didn't like it one bit. We've been led through some pretty questionable places in the past by my old Tom Tom but they weren't RV models. The new Garmin warns of all those things, has a great RV-related database for searching, also has the input for a backup camera, built-in blue tooth, etc. Really nice. By the way, I'm serious on the R-M unit - make me an offer and PM me an address! I'm not going to use it, so someone might as well get some use from it.

It's sounds like the Iron Mt. Road (16A) out of Keystone, S.D. DW thought she needed Depends after that.

Does it require a data connection or are the maps pre-loaded?

Garmin Software on the IPhone is my solution. No cell service or internet required once the application is installed. Works as well as a dedicated GPS.

dhind, does the garmin app work off of cell towers or satellite? Also, will it do what some are saying the stand alone unit does regarding tunnels, twisty roads and curves and such? Finally, cost of the app. Thanks!

No the app is basic Garmin GPS. Hopefully one day they will add these.

It works off the GPS satellites. No data is needed once the app is downloaded.
