Hail damage

Today I was forewarned that so and so's friend who owned an motorhome left their slides out during a hail storm and received considerable damage.

Is there any true to that statement? Has that happened to anyone out there?

I had intended on leaving the slides out year round or most the year. My area of New Mexico is hot, dry and rarely hails anything bigger than corn puff size hail.
