Heater quit

Learned a new lesson last few days, our heaters would just run about 45 seconds and shut off. Never started to blow hot?? Found out that the ( air flow sensor or switch) was dirty with lint and dust it is the one under the metal cover behind the wood grill with two wires to it. Think I will put a thin mesh type filter like the ac has behind the wood grill, not thick enough to hinder air flow. Hope this helps someone.

I think you are talking about the 'sail switch' (?)

It relies on a certain amount of air flow to make a connection.
If the sail switch has debris on it... dust or insect nests.. it will not 'sail' in the air flow and make that necessary connection.. thus it will shut down after a run period to confirm the burner is cool.

You may have a good plan there to put a (thin) air filter material to stop anything to accumulate on the sail switch.

Some owner manuals say not to put a filter in the cold air return. You might try it but if it gives you problems, try putting a piece of window screen in there. Put it on the back of the louver panel.

That is where I installed my ,cut to fit, furnace filter... was behind the louvered grill. It has very low velocity restriction and has not created any problems thus far.
