heatstrips and furnace together

my unit has heatstrips you can use them or the furnace but not together
i would like to install a 2nd tstat to run the heat strips so i can have more heat when it turns cold any one done that mod ??

I can't imagine it would be too difficult. I would either remove the existing wires for the furnace from the multipurpose thermostat and hook them up to a standard wall thermostat (simplest method I think) or I would add a 12V relay which would be activated by the heat strip wiring (with a on/off switch). The second method would be little more complex but would control both units at once.
