help with ac

We are camping in Savannah and the rear AC is acting up. We have the AC turned off but it comes on intermittently and has a humming sound. It does that for about 15 minutes before stopping and then repeats at least hourly. Any thoughts?

Sound all most like a motor or compressor is going out or start cap. you may want to also check the wire at the breaker to see if lose or hot. The AC is going in to overload and shutting down. If you can check the current at the breaker running load should be about 11-16amp. Should say on name plate or paper work.

IF you can't fix it kill the breaker to it, to stop damage to the AC.

we aren't mechanically inclined, so took your advice and shut off the circuit breaker. i think you are right about the compressor. it was making some odd sounds thruout the night. hope it's not too late. the warranty went out just a month ago...go figure! thanks for the help.

mine just did that. I turned it off at the thermostat and it kept going. I turned off the breaker and waited 5 minutes to turn it on. Then 10 minutes later it started up again by itself!!

Have you checked voltage at the campground?
Maybe its too low to run both ACs.

Could be a case for a 50 Amp Autotransformer.

It may have frozen over the condenser coils. Let it thaw out for a few hours, and try it again- Running the unit on low speed will cause this to happen. Had a Coleman/Fleetwood pop up that would do that after the second day of operation. Randy
