How to avoid most noisy down shifts
First, if you are driving in an area of rolling hills, turn off the cruise control. Second, even if you are in cruise control, for a moderate hill you can always step on the gas pedal just enough to gain some speed as you approach the hill and most of the time you can top the hill without a downshift. Thirdly, when I forget to use the gas pedal and the coach downshifts I quickly tap the brake pedal which stops the cruise control and the rpm immediately drops to normal. And lastly, going up or down a long grade use tow/haul mode to mostly limit downshifts to a single gear at a time. Remember, just because you are in cruise control does not mean you can't use the gas pedal to prevent those two gear downshifts. Speed up a little on the downhill and you will crest average sized hills without a downshift.
