Hubcap Nut GONE
We lost one of the nuts that holds the right rear hubcap on.
2012 Georgetown 360
There are 3 per wheel. 1 was almost off, the other a little tighter.
OUCH I hope it just went in the ditch! That’s a size 13 in the pic.
Now for the???
Anybody have this happen to them?
Ours came off at about 4K miles.
Should this be part of the selling dealer’s responsibility?
Is this a part of normal maintenance? Should I check them @ oil and lube time?
Is this part of the PDI?
Both front wheels had 1 that needed tightening!!
The left rear seem to be tight.
Thanks

Sound like owners responsibility after 4,000 miles.
But seriously I plan on checking mine tomorrow.

theres normally a sticker or a disclaimer somewhere that states " re torque lug nuts after first 100 miles "
I just looked and my "sticker" says check lug torque before each trip !

There is no way that was torqued at any time.
There is plenty of blame to go around.
Someone was in a hurry when the tire was mounted.
No one checked it at the factory when it went out.
No one checked it when it arrived at the dealer.
No one checked it at the PDI.
Owner did not retorque at 100 miles.
Owner did not check torque before every trip.
Since Owner was the last causal factor in the error chain....
It will not most likely not be covered under warranty.

As far as I can see they only hold onthe center hub cap and not the tire to the axle. I bet you can go check out a local truck stop and buy a few.

That looked like a lug nut with a chrome cap on it.
If it is not a lug nut; then, my bad about torque.
However:
Still it should have been found when the required lug torque was done by everyone.

It is a lug nut but it goes over the lug and nut of the tire and just holds the chrome plastic center cap of the wheel. See picture.

I’m going put all this in 1 reply.
This is on a motor home, our 5th wheel had a sticker that said re-torque after 100 miles then once a year, or something like that. I did and again after a flat, never a problem.
It’s not a lug nut, all those acorn nuts aren’t nuts at all they are just for show, except for 3 per wheel.
The hubcap includes these fake nuts and the plate they are on.
This must not happen often.
I’ve been to Camping World and a local Class A dealership and they don’t stock them.
I’m going to get a nut for our next trip and order one from the local class A dealer.
Thanks
abjb

When we had our walk through at the dealership when we picked up our new Georgetown. I saw a wrench in a compartment and asked the man showing us through what is this for? He chuckled and shrugged and said I don't know. When I lost a fake nut on our way to TX I realized what it was for. I found a number of the other needed tightening. I was able to get one when we stopped at Forest River in Elkhart on our way back to ON.

Those false lug nuts (3 per wheel marked by the grooves) are for holding the wheel covers on, and can become loose over time. They should be checked periodically. I checked mine and found several loose ones that I tightened. The T-shaped wrench shown in Iggy's picture is specifically for tightening and loosening the false lug nuts. These nuts should never be torqued, overtightened or tightened with a pneumatic wrench, as damage to the wheel cover or nut cover can result.

During our PDI I asked about THAT wrench, he said it was the lug nut wrench.
I looked at him and said the only tool I know of to work on wheels this size (I’ve been around a few) is a cell phone, he got this kind of sheepish look and said it’s the hub cap wrench.
I was confused and still am about THAT wrench.
Is it for the FAKE lug nuts (available at Camping world) or the real nuts (NOT available at Camping World) that hold the hub caps on?
Thanks AGAIN

Hey Cool!
That is an emergency awning strap in the drawer!
I know because I threw mine out on day 2 before I knew what it was!

I lost one of my wheel cover lug nuts and found out my "lug wrench" didn't fit the nuts when I tried to tighten the others. I ended up buying a socket and tacking it on the end of the wrench after my local dealer ordered three and none of them fit. Same issue with the nuts and covers, finally went to a truck stop for them..... one of those things that should have been easy and turned into a headache!!

They are real nuts (with covers) that hold the wheel covers on. The other similar looking pieces (without the grooves) are decorative only. I called the wheel cover nuts "false lug nuts" to distinguish them from the ones that hold the wheels on. The wheel covers must be removed to expose the wheel lug nuts. I don't know whether the wrench fits the wheel lug nuts, but it doesn't look strong enough to remove them. Of course, my coach came with neither a jack nor a spare, so I wouldn't remove them anyway.
