Guess it is model dependent. In my 335DS it is easy to reach through the basement battery door. I am not that familiar with your coach but it would seem that the cause may be the "pass through" storage compartments. On mine all of the drivers side compartments, with the exception of the large pass through in the rear are for maintenance access (propane, batteries and hydraulics, generator and water and sewage.) These coaches are complicated and sometimes its hard to make everything line up for easy access without sacrificing something. As others have said, at least you don't have to do much for regular maintenance on the levelers and it sounds like a decent compromise by favoring storage over access to the levelers.
