I think what the author was saying is many consumer electronics are available in dual voltage formats (Jensen) for one, I had Sharp color set with VCR and separate DVD player in 12VDC also. The point is if you really want to save amp hours this is a real savings to prevent power conversions DC to AC and back for final use.

yes, I got that. Makes total sense when there is a DC option to use that when available; rather than convert DC to AC; then back again.

We don't do any "dry camping" but do some "Wal Mart" camping.

We've had good results from the $100 300w pure sine wave you plug into the 12v power outlet at the TV.
I have another (more than $100) hard wired to the batteries, can't remember how many watts but it's enough to make coffee.
Tried a 12v coffee pot... takes a LONG time for 4 cups!

12v lights, heat, coffee and TV what more could you ask for.
