I've realized the same issue in our Sandpiper basement. Carpet only prevents the bottom chair from moving while all those stacked on top fall all over the place. OC is unbelievable and I love his solutions. But, I'm not quite as capable as him in the fabricating arena. Once the weather warms a bit, my plan is to attach several old life jacket (2") straps to the top and bottom of the bay and clip them together to hold the chairs in place while traveling. When I want to remove the chairs, I will simply unsnap them just like you do when you want to get out of a life jacket.
Another thought would be to buy one of the nets that go in the back of a pickup or suv and adapt it to hold stuff in place.
