Leaky Hydraulic Pump

Ok I know this isn't a new topic, but I searched on this forum leaking hydraulic pump and really got confused by some of the return searches. Just recently I've noticed that when we open/close a slide while our rig sits in the drive I'll have a small spot of fluid under the pump where fluid leaks out. It appears to come from a large nut on the side of the pump that loosens and than leaks. I tighten the nut but it seems to be getting worse. My search returned many types of leaks with the scariest being fluid getting into the pump body itself and frying the pump. I'm not a mechanic like some have posted but trying to hopefully get some direction on what I'm experiencing. Leaving on another trip Wednesday so I am trying to get some ideas to address this issue in detail when we return.

There is most likely an o ring under there that is bad . Can you post a picture of that large nut?

lbrunner I'll try to get a pic posted. I've read about " o rings" but don't really know where to look. With three slide outs and the jacks there are eleven hydraulic line in/outs and no clear view of anywhere else it could be leaking than the mentioned nut,

I would bet that there is an o ring under that nut if you take it out be careful there might be a small spring and or ball under it. Looks like it is an o ring boss port (orb) witch takes a special o ring. One other thing that will help to find a leak that is hard to see is to clean and dry the area , I use brakekleen and blow dry with compressed air then place paper towels around the suspected area run it and see where the paper towels are wet

that also looks like a relieve valve so when you take it out make sure there isn't a spring in the hole that flies out.

I am wondering if you have a too high pressure situation, where the pressure relief valve is doing it's job. I believe you can search for the repair manuals on-line for your particular model

Like others have said, I would take that nut out slowly and be sure to catch any spring/ ball that may be under it, take that fitting to a hydraulic hose builder type shop and get a hydraulic o'ring to replace it with.

This appears to be my unit. Can't find out though from Lippert Owners Manuel what the "nut" is. Notice the extension piece on the new unit.

If you are going to be removing nuts and such ensure that you have all pressure off the system, these units work under high pressure and jacks and other items hare held in position by that pressure. JMHO

That is probably a pressure test port just has a quick coupler on it.

Update, I removed the nut to find as pointed out by several posts a badly worn "O" ring that was actually missing a small piece. However, there wasn't a spring or ball of any nature behind the nut. I also noticed that both sides of the diaphragm type coupling have this large nut. Perhaps this is a change from some earlier Lippert systems that some folks have had problems with fluid getting into the motors and toasting them. Anyways, 10 minutes and $3 for a package of O rings and I'm good to go. Thanks for all the responses and suggestions!
