Hi JimF

Do you mean that:
- we should not use the heated mirrors at all, for fear of damaging the diode.
- or did you have the heated mirrors on at the same time you were using the jacks and that damaged the diode.

Sorry, for asking for clarification, but I am having a bit of difficulty grasping exactly what happened.

Thanks for your help!

The modification consists of essentially taking a over-taxed diode out of circuit. The diode is in the fuse panel under the dash. The diode in question is the one labeled "DIODE 2" in the Ford 2011 F53 Owners Manual. The modification consists of removing the fuse panel, locating the wires for the diode and then cutting these wires and connecting them together.
Due to the difficulty in working in the area I had planned on removing the diode and then modifying the diode (by shorting it) and then reinstalling it. It looks like either FR or Ford beat me to it. My 2011 350 does not have the diode. As my unit was built in Dec 2010 it is probable that owners of new units need not worry.
