leveling jacks

Hello everyone as a newbie and a new owner of georgetown 373 i was wondering if it is necessary to use the leveling jacks at all times when camping or only when your site is extremely unlevel. What about during winter storage? Jacks up or down?

The refrigerator needs to be level to run well. That's the only need I know of.

Otherwise I think that it is a personal preference. I like them down when I camp because it minimized the amount that the coach moves around.

I store the coach with the jacks up. Not for any reason other than I just don't need them to be down.

The only safety thing I know of is that the e-break and Park (on the transmission) only keeps the rear wheels from rolling. So if you lift the rear wheels off the ground with the jacks there isn't anything to keep the coach from moving. So it could try to roll and tear the jacks off.

Auto-level will lift the rear wheels off the ground in certain circumstances. Especially if you put and blocks under the jacks like I do on soft ground. So that's just something to watch out for. It's pretty rare.

Thanks for your input. The storage issue seems to be a matter of preference, some say it is good to take the load off of the tires when storing, others dont.

I always try to orient the rig so I leave the rear tires on the ground. While I can't always do it, if they are up, then I take the fronts up too. While I don't think the rig would move on just the front tires and the rear jacks, who wants to take a chance. Storing the rig with jacks down is asking for corrosion on the jacks. You will never see nice rigs stored with jacks down. Our tires generally fail due to UV ray erosion long before the tread wears out. Save your jacks cause the tires will go anyway.

Your rig is supposed to be level before putting the slides out.

You dont need to use the jacks when camping if you are already level but they will help stabilize everything. I would recommend it. I would not store it in the winter with the jacks down since your leveling legs could corrode and thats not good for the seals when you go to use them again. The chassis and tires are designed to support the wieght 365days a year.

The slides on my 373 run smoother when leveled and on the jacks. I like manual leveling vs Auto. Front first, rear next, then I find if you to a little left/right it seems to stabilize better. I never lift the tires off ground, if that unlevel I break out the blocks. Jacks up, slides in for storage. Enjoy.

You should never lift your tires off the ground with the jacks,if you need put one byes under the tires before you level. You will cause major problem if the tires are left off the ground for a long peroid of time ,like stress problems on the body and running gear.
