You only need one end open as the bottom is actually plugged anyway by the post that is in the bottom of the housing. The water comes in from the side and goes through the side of the filter material and up through the center and out the top of the filter back into the upper part of the housing to the trailer. These units work exactly the same as the unit I have in our house.

Had the same problem. Threw away the water filter and filled the jar with golf balls...no more pressure issues.

soooooo what exactly would be the point of adding gold balls to the canister ?

The golf balls take up a lot of room in the canister and that reduces the amount of anitfreeze used when I winterize.

Lol ok I thought maybe that would be the case.
So do u use them in the summer whilst there not in your
canister?

HELL NO.....I hate golf...but I can use them to hatch new golf balls.
