Exterior Stove Vent Installation
Everyone: this is closure on my microwave/stove exterior vent installation. It was tedious, but uneventful; an afternoon project. The microwave was not attached as shown in the Amana booklet, so figuring how to remove it was a challenge. I fabricated a pry from some aluminum flat bar, and managed to access the attachment without much damage. An irritating issue was that the template that came with the Amana booklet provided for a 12" wide opening, while the actual unit is only 10" wide. I realized this before I cut the exterior opening, so I corrected and still had a place to land the screws on the sides of the exterior vent cover. I added stick-on foam seal strips between the rear of the microwave and the interior wall so the only air exchange will be via the vent system. I considered adding a screen, but did not. The inner and outer dampers should suffice, along with the screen at the inlet above the stove. Thanks everyone for all the advice and guidance. Here is a pictorial:
