Thanks kdcamper. Same place here. Always makes me laugh when someone tells me they get 9-10 MPG but there not towing. Must be I got the wrong V10. 'Cause when I tow I get right at 7 mpg and when don't I get the 8 mpg.

Maybe they drive 50mph everywhere and always stay on flat terrain. Not my case.

....as I said in my case I have the exact same engine as a 351 but it's in 280Ds.....I am sure my max weight and ie pay load are a lot less. I am weighing in at about 16,500 my max is 18,000 and my toad is 3000 so physics would tell you that I am going to get a few more miles than my bigger brothers.

Would not gas mileage though perhaps minor be an indication of how your engine is performing....I keep track of it as well as specific battery test to see what their out output is after say playing a two hour movie on the T.V. If your gas mileage drops considerably under your normal driving conditions....would not that be an indication that it's time for a tune up or to look for other problems as would be the same with your batteries....ie time to replace them before a big trip if they are starting to drop off to fast that is if you know your going to be doing a lot of dry camping. For me it's more of a maintenance issue and trying to stay ahead of problems rather than the cost of the gas.

F350 17-18 not towing and 9-10 towing 19,000 GVWR. But I tow at no more than 60mph.

Previous MH same as FR 378TS (length, engine, chassis, same toad etc.) just different manufacturer,Georgie Boy (GB). GB got 8 Mpg, FR 6.8 Mpg, both towing at same speed going to same locations every year. The only difference between units is that the GB is more aerodynamic (if a MH could be) and the FR has a big flat front end. Ah, the price of panoramic viewing. Not complaining about 80 mile loss per tank, just a thought.

My CRV which weighs 3500# gets 28 mpg
My 21000# motorhome gets 7-8 mpg. Not that bad considering.

The rear axle ratio on the newer higher GCVW motor homes will be different that the slightly older models.

My 2013 378TS is on a 24K chassis with a 6.17 to 1 rear axle
Many earlier models were on a 22K chassis with a 5.38 to 1 rear axle.


The tires sizes were also different. Both of these will affect RPM at speed and that will affect MPG.

I'm with Yarome. Don't worry about it. Don't think about it. We enjoy the ride, the trip, ect. Drive the speed limit or flow with the traffic, whichever/whatever. Don't have the need to check my ScanGuage every 2 minutes and 37 seconds to see what my mpg is. Driving a big shoebox shaped rig, and it is what it is, 6,7,8, whatever. Have more important things to worry/think about, like breakfast, or lunch, or dinner, or senic view's, the destination, ect.

If you can afford to buy a nice rig, you probably shouldn't worry about the MPG. No matter how you slice it, it is going to suck!

As I said for me it's a factor I look at every few fills to see how my engine is performing....of course the ultimate goal is to enjoy the trip and for me I feel most comfortable using all the information at my disposal and apply it to preventive maintenance before its starts coughing and sputtering and not pulling hills the way it should which is how I do my job as a maintenance electrician.

I just hand my son 2 $100 bills and say "here, all of this on #7". First time or two I got the "really?" look... now he just takes it and puts the money on the line.

I will have to say, lately I actually don't have to pull out an extra $20 or $50 to fill up.
