Mud Flap

We have owned our new Georgetown for 1 month and 1 day now. It came with a full width mud flap with the name Georgetown on it, but it was not installed by the dealer.

We can’t tow yet until break-in mileage, but we’re sure that it would look nice from behind the motor home.

Asking the group if installing it permanently is a good or bad idea. It is heavy if we decide to install it only when towing. It is also full width and would be difficult to store when not in use.

We’ve seen quotes on line like: “I understand that a full length mud flap across the rear of the coach may do more harm than good.” and “I have been towing for over a year and have only the factory mud flaps. I have no marks or chips on my toad and I have been on many gravel roads.”

Again, asking others: Would you have the full width mud flap installed permanently, install it myself only while towing then take it off and store it after each toad trip, or just either toss it away or save it for a later sale of motor home?

I only wish when my Georgetown was build it was an option because I would love it as I pull a toad.
Many I have seen that are mounted are on a moveable chain link so they move in case you hit a curb while backing into a space.
I wouldn't consider removing it as it would be more problems than its worth.

We've had our mudflap on almost from day one.

Not as fancy as the one you're describing....see link

Ultra Guard - 94"W x 16"H for Motorhomes - Smart Solutions 00016 - Rock Guards - Camping World

Just like Iggy said, ours hangs loose so it will fold out of the way when backing up. It's heavy enough that it stays in position for what it's purpose is when travelling down the highway. Why would you want to remove it anyway?

X2 We have had the same one (Ultra Guard from CW) on our coach for 5 years and it has saved the toad's finish on several occasions. Install permanently and leave it be.

Probably from Forest River.
I could not find any other online places that sell them.

I completely understand wanting to remove it all be it the hassle while it will move back and forth over curbing and such, that pretty Georgetown name is going to get scratched and would bother the hell out out of me.
