Need a Catalytic Converter Replacement - Obsolete Part

I own a 2004 Georgetown. Last week, while it was at the dealership for service, someone cut off the OEM catalytic converter (P/N 4C3Z5E212FA), and now I need a replacement. However, Ford doesn't make it anymore. I need help to find an alternate part that maintains the same flow characteristics of the original. I installed a Banks Power Pack 2-years ago. Can anyone give me a lead on who makes replacements for the F53? All my Google searches have done nothing more than verify that the original pat is discontinued. Really need some help here. Thanks.

Why not use a universal one?

So far, I've called Walker, Magnaflow and one other (the name escapes me at the moment) and none have a part number for the F53, even a universal one. I'll bring it to a muffler shop once I get it back from the dealer after servicing but I need some assurance that whatever is installed will be as good as OEM. Am I overly concerned here?

Try Summit racing. All you need is the size of the exhaust tube.

Who cut the cat off. A guy in service, or someone steal it while parked on the lot? Its a stripped chassis, match up the inlet and outlet and it will pass.

Find it hard to believe you can find a cat. There is a federal mandate that cats are warranted for a ridiculous time frame like 6 yrs or 100k miles. My 1996 ranger had one replaced under warranty in 2003 with 150k. The muffler shop told me to take it to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. Crack heads are known for stealing them because they contain platinum. But if you take it to most any muffler shop they can fit one to it. They put one in without a problem on my custom exhaust Gran Prix when it went bad.

Yep, I assure you that the converter P/N is no longer made by Ford, and no one carries any old part inventories. I did find a site in FL saying they had one for $1650. Must be made of gold. I'm more concerned about making sure a replacement matches well with the Banks system. That means OEM type specs and flow because that is what the Banks system is designed to interface with. But it doesn't appear that the big exhaust system manufacturers make one for the F53, so I'll probably have to go with a local muffler shop to fit one. We'll see.

Just a heads up, the dealer is responsible for your loss. When your vehicle is in the custody of the repairing dealer, there is a reasonable expectation that your vehicle is safe from thieves. You will need to make a clam against the dealers insurance carrier. So, take it to the muffler shop who handles RVs and have the insurance company settle with them. Less headache that way. Just sayin'

Couple things.

That price on the cat from Ford sounds about right.

Second, your banks won't care about the cat.
If you have emissions testing, just put a universal on.
If you don't... Get rid of it.

Not necessarily ............................. You have to prove the dealer did not take reasonable care of the vehicle ...... Likely you would have to take the dealer / ins co. to court & you would likely loose........

Common for Cats to get stolen around here.....

Yes to the direct replacement, Bob. Did not see one at oreilys, car quest or pep boys.
