New King Jack Antenna

Installed a new King Jack antenna yesterday, and wow what an improvement. I was only receiving two channels where we store our motorhome...now getting nine. Had to cut a 2 1/4' hole in the ceiling, and had to use the optional longer handle connector do the roof thickness. Glad to report the amount of insulation in the roof is impressive.

I have been trying to decide if I wanted to go the route of changing my antenna over to the King Jack...just not sure I can make myself create the hole all the way through. I know there is one there for the current antenna, but this is much bigger.

Our dealer threw in the jack hdtv head when we got our new trailer this spring. He used the replacement head version so it just bolts on to the existing wingman setup. So if your gears are not shot you may want to go with the replacement head version.

The existing hole is about an inch or so and looked to have been made with a jig saw. I used a 2 1/4" hole saw on the roof, then kept going until the guide bit just went thru the ceiling. I then went inside and cut the whole in the ceiling. You need to be careful to not damage the existing coax. The ceiling mount control looks very nice. Camping World wanted $250 to install.

The existing hole is about 1 1/2" already and I made it larger just using a razor blade.
The existing hole is covered up with a metal plate and lots of caulking.
The extended shaft that goes into the interior and I had very little to cut.

Here is my finished MOD.

The old screw holes I cover with Eternabond which adhered very well after a good cleaning of the surface. I have had it on for over a year now and no leaks.


Here is the existing hole and the one that I made. As long as you read the instructions and seal correctly you will have no issues.

I liked my Jack antenna my only grip was it was too fragile. After I replaced the second one from tee tiny branches that caught on each one and just ripped them right off. Mine was on the crown side of the road and the branch on the last one was so tiny I did not think there would be a problem. I drove that street all the time and semi's use it.....we were only doing about 15 mph so I was not concerned until I heard it hit the street. Just remember it is hollow flimsey plastic for the shaft......

Has anyone seen a manual for the King Jack, or know if there are any Youtube vidios on how to operate and interface to it.

Is this a new standard on Solera, I didn't notice it in the literature. I assume it is already wired to the TV's??

Is there a wiring diagram?

Iggy: did you just hook up coax from the batwing on the king Jack? And did you the king plate or original George Town one

Yes used the existing coax and I did install the new amp in the wall.
It is the exact same thing but I decided to use the new one and keep the old one for a spare.
