We had a similar problem with our generator (Generac) this year. Never had a problem in past three years. It turned out there was a temperature switch on the generator and if the temperature got to high it would shut itself off. Going down the road with the temps in the 100's and the heat from road, tires, etc. it would shut itself off. It seemed to work fine sitting still even in the warmer temps. It was the added heat from the road that caused the issue. Temperatures dropped and she starting working just fine again in all situations.

I just got our 4000 back from the Cummins/Onan shop south of Atlanta. I had same error code 36 and my fuel pump was bad.

Also, to the guys saying to use synthetic, the Onan rep at the shop told me NOT to use synthetic. He said the particles were smaller and it had a greater chance of losing oil. He said the best oil was regular 15w40 or the straight up 30 weight.

If you look on Onan website they have a ton of service centers. You can call them and order anything you might need

If you go to the Onan web sites, they say you can use synthetic oil after break in period but keep your regular oil change intervals. I find the engine runs a lot cooler!
