Yep, or change your driving style and speeds. It will have much more effect.

superchips ...

I have had a Superchips tune in my Nissan Frontier for over two years. I run it only on 87 octane tune, Thottle restriction off, speed limiter off, rev limiter on, no advance. The truck clearly runs better, and faster throughout the entire speed range, however the biggest advance for me was the removal of the throttle restriction ..
In no way however does this tuner mess with the shift points of the transmission, as this is controlled by the Body Contol Modual, not the ECM. The cortex only flashes the ECM.
Do i save gas? No.
Why? Because the darn truck is so much fun to drive i like to mash the pedal now and then to the suprise to some very upset F150/Silverado poser truck owners ...
Anywhoo ... claims of gas savings with these devices are at best wishfull. Claims of increased fun and enjoyment are substantial.

cheers D-mo

The extra power should help with mpg. Extra power means the transmission doesn't have to downshift as much. Does it? It depends. Having more power usually means you will use more power. Pulling away from an intersection, merging with traffic on the interstate. You will put your right foot down more.I have the Superchips Cortex for my Expedition. If I am cruising with the cruise control on and empty, I notice that the displayed MPG is a little higher. As soon as I pull away from a stop the MPG drops. With the tow tune I have to run premium gas. I am getting about the same MPG but it tows easier.

Bottom line. A tuner/chip might help MPG. If it does you will probably not have it long enough to pay for itself. Mine actually costs me more to tow because I have to run premium gas. I like it because the extra power makes it tows easier and it shifts better (a little firmer) and at the right RPM for the load.
