I am here at the Frog Rally and the other day I went to a seminar put on by Lippert.
In the Q&A I asked about the popping sound coming from the jakes.
I was told that Cat had come up with an additive for the hydraulic system to control that.
They came over to our RV and added it to our system but told me it would take some time for it to work it's way through the system. I saw the bottle and it is a Cat product.

I didn't ask them where to get it I thought of that after he was gone.
I think if you go to the Lippert web site and make your way to Level up.
Send them an email someone should get back to you.
Also a Cat dealer may have it or could order it for you.

I'm going to look into this and see if it solves this problem because this is the one thing on my new rig that drives me absolutely crazy.

Cat sells a quart bottle of hydraulic fluid additive that "relieves stick-slip on noisy hydraulic cylinders". Here's the link: http://parts.cat.com/parts/machine-fluids/oils/additives/hydraulic-oil-additive

I'll do some research on this and see what I can find out.

Did they ever say exactly what the noise was and what caused it? Ours does it when the temp rises, sometimes when we are in it and sometimes when we are just sitting around outside. Always when the temp is rising. Gets pretty loud sometimes.

No he did not say what makes the sound only that RV jacks don't get adequate use for them to wear in.

OK, I spoke with a Lippert rep and they are well aware of the problem. Here is the solution he sent me:

HYDRAULICS
ADDING ANTI-STICTION FLUID TO LCI HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS

Introduction:
If there is a popping noise in a Lippert Leveling system, Lippert has approved adding a quart of anti-stiction fluid. Approved fluids are listed by brand name and fluid characteristics below:

1. Torco RFF Grade 15 (Fig. 1)

2. Maxima Fork Oil Grade 15 (Fig. 2)

3. Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive 1U-9891 (Fig. 3)

For maximum results in the shortest amount of time, please follow the preparation and procedure exactly as written below. Failure to follow the preparation and procedure may result in delayed resolution of the audible disturbance.

Preparation:

1. Obtain a clean container (large enough to hold a quart of fluid)

2. Obtain a fluid extraction device (siphon, turkey baster, etc.)

3. Fully retract all hydraulic cylinders and jacks.

Process:

1. Using the fluid extraction device, remove one quart of fluid from the power unit reservoir.

2. Add 1/2 quart of the specified fluid.

3. Extend all hydraulic cylinders and jacks fully.

4. Add the remaining amount of the specified fluid.

5. Fully retract all hydraulic cylinders and jacks.

6. Run the Auto-Level feature on the Level-Up system per the instructions found in the Owner's Manual.

NOTE:

If the noise persists, the addition of a second quart may be necessary. Follow steps 1 through 6.

Ditto the thanks from Newellri.

This is what this forum is all about and why it's so GREAT! This discussion topic, and many others like it, far outweigh those that moan, gripe and rundown FR.

Thanks to all!
