Propane fire pit

Has anyone used a propane fire pit to skip the hassle of bringing or buying wood for the pit provided at the campsites?

Love it, love it, love it. People give you funny looks at first, until they realize there's no smoke, no ash or embers, and when you want to go to bed, you turn the valve off and it goes out. Plus, if there's an open fire ban where you're camping, you'll be the most popular site in the place with a propane campfire. Not to mention that my wife hates campfire smoke, so this is how I can get her outside. I find that I'll go through a 20# tank in 2 nights with my Big Red Campfire. Wouldn't go back to wood--cutting it, carrying it, loading it, transporting it, unloading it--not to mention all the concerns with the critters that live in wood and the dangers of transporting them (ash borer beetle, etc.)

Do it!

So a propane fire isn't considered an open flame? You mentioned a 20# tank lasted two nights. Approx how many hours total did you use it before you ran out of gas?.....

I have one but I have not had the need to use it yet. I've only had it about two months. The end of this month we will be at a CG where they do not provide fire pits. You need to bring your own above ground system. I plan to bring this to that CG.

I bought one last year when we were in an area with a fire ban but they allowed gas pits.

We love the convenience....

THis is the one you want. Check the size and read the reviews. There are similar ones but this one as 'Auto Ignition' feature. My wife and I love it.

Never gave a propane fire pit a second thought until you guy's mentioned it.
I have a propane BBQ that attaches to my TT with a hose that extends out from the side wall.
I guess I could attach a hose to that and run it to the fire pit. Run it off the TT tanks. Great idea. I'm in !! Thanks.

I use mine if it is hot outside and I want a small fire for an hour or so and under my canopy if it is raining.

Used mine a couple of months ago in Canada, there was a fire ban but I was good to go. I don't use it often, but it's convenient. Got it at lowes for around $100.

My buddy has one, Mostly he carries his wood.

He uses it when his toy hauler is heavy or when he is in a CG that has posted no-fire conditions. I have seen it used and think it works well.

Personally I want a wood fire but think it is the best alternative when you cannot burn wood. I have the space to carry one myself, just not the cause so far. Just being cheap but willing to buy one should the plan require it.

So, plan accordingly and live with your choices, I say.

I have one from my Truck Camper days, in California for the last few years there were a lot of camp sites where they wouldn't allow wood burning but a propane fire pit was OK. It worked out great. Fast Forward to today, I have it with me in the TT but just realized after reading this I don't have a tank to connect to except the 2, 7gals for the trailer, kind of inconvenient to use those. I am going to have to look for a way to connect it to the low pressure quick disconnect for the BBQ or Outside Kitchen.

But of my kids are border line allergic to the smoke of the fire and after a wood fire, they usually get sick. The propane fire pit attaches directly to my propane feed on my 364 and is so simple. It might not be traditional but at the conveniences (kids not sick, ease of use, no firewood to buy, etc.) outweigh that

Dear friends of ours now use one for camping due to the Hub being a dbl lung transplant recipient. I love a campfire, but the convenience of that propane set up cannot be denied. And I'd gladly trade a wood fire any day for more time w/my friend.

Correct, it's more like a propane BBQ grill than anything else. I'll run mine for 3-4 hours (like from sundown to bedtime,) and sometimes a little longer. I usually carry 2 20# tanks in the truck bed for the fire, but you could just as easily connect it to your camper LPG supply...you can buy a "Y" connector that goes right on your tank, one hose to the camper supply and the other to your fire pit.

I've used mine a number times. For those times where you can't burn, it's a nice touch. There are quite a number of styles out there from $100 and up. Don't know if these will be compatable with TTs Lp system. I dont think the Little Red cf is, since the gas control is integral with the regulator and POL connection. As far as low pressure Lp vs high press Lp that probably won't make a lot of difference since the gas volume control has considerable range from a normal setting where it doesn't have a huge flame to overkill
