Propane Question

Does anybody know what this valve is that is on the propane tank, it's on the right side and hooked to the hose that feeds the appliances, it's warm to the touch and was wondering if I should be concerned.

It is the safety solenoid and is operated from the LP detector inside your RV. It should be warm to hot to the touch. If LP detector goes off, it will close solenoid valve and interrupt propane to the RV. During normal operation valve is open and solenoid energized.

Thank you, we're getting ready for the first trip of the season this weekend so I went and had the tank filled and just happened to touch that valve.

This device also takes power from your batteries. It will run your batteries dead if you forget to turn it off when you let your home sit not plugged in for several days and especially while in storage.

Does that device turn off individually....other than of course flipping the breaker. Fortunately my coach is never in storage more than 4 or 5 days at a time before I can bring it back to my driveway and plug in, in order to satisfy the cities ordnance but I leave my DC switch in so that my fantastic fans will vent the heat out of my coach (Southern California)....my batteries will usual last but be on their last legs....if I can turn that solenoid off then perhaps I can get through the 4 or 5 days with ease.

There is a fuse to the LP Alarm by your batteries believe its a 5amp fuse (in line) pull the fuse and that shuts off the alarm and the solenoid. Mine is under my steps.

On my MH the device has it's own on/off switch and does not shut off with the main battery disconnect. I just need to remember to shut it off when I put in the garage for storage. When you turn it back on, I don't know why, but seems it takes a while for the LP to start flowing again ... so I just light the 3 burners on the stove (which takes a little longer) then the LP frig will light.

Can you take a pic of your switch....I don't believe I have one but then again, maybe I don't know what I am looking for. I did not know I had that electric water heater switch for quite some time either.
