Queen bed mod / lift n lock added

The struts weren't strong enough to hold up the bed to get into the storage area below the bed, had to have 2 people. I replaced struts with these lift-n-lock slides. Raise the bed and it stays , lift the bed and lower it back down. Click image for larger version

Lift and Lock

Do you have the model and manufacturer info. Sounds like a better solution than a stick.

Re-positioning the gas struts would also work and provide assistance in lifting the bed.

Struts would not hold the bed up, at least this way the bed is locked in the up position. One of the original struts had even bent the rod.

Understand that the struts would not hold the bed up, but they would assist in lifting it if left where they were or re-positioned. With one being bent indicates they were not positioned properly by the factory. Moving them away from the hinge will limit the opening, but increase the lifting force. The only thing to watch is making sure the strut anchor points are such that the struts can completely collapse when the bed is closed.

It made a difference without the mattress on it, I think if I replace the strut that was bent and add it back in there and have the 2 struts again, I think it would be perfect!!

With a LOT of perseverance, the bent one can be straightened with a pipe and a vise with covered jaws.

Got credited with 19.9 yrs. Not hired by luck of a drawing in 1985 when Tenneco bought IH farm equipment and formed Case-IH. Worked in the Combine Engineering Group in East Moline until they moved the engineers to Hinsdale, went there in 1981 until Feb 1985.
