Question about generator/shore power

While i have my power hooked up to shore and i am getting ready to go. I start the geny and unplug the shore power, is it alright to have both shore power and geny at once for this little short time?

your auto transfer switch will kick in and go on shore power and I would turn off the gen won't be doing nothing but running. If you want to exercise the gen then unplug the shore power and let gen run everything.

That is fine. The ATS is typically set to give the gen priority. When the gen is started and voltage stabilizes, it will switch over from shore power to gen power. So when you disconnect the shore line, it is actually not doing anything at that point.

I start my gen before disconnecting shore when leaving a campground also.
I leave the roof A/C, televisions and sometimes the clothes washer on. They never skip a beat during the switchover to gen.

I do the same, except I turn the A/C's off during the transfer, same as when shifting to shore power.

Less initial contact arc.
