Rear Tire removal
We have a chunk out of our rear tire on 2015 Georgetown 364TS, so we have to buy a new tire. $$$. Took to Tire shop and they cannot get the wheel off. They managed to get one of the nuts off that hold the wheel cover on, but rounded the tool to get this off. No room between nuts and center cover to get socket wrench. Any suggestions?

Are there not only three, actual covers that come off? The rest are decoration.
Look for three that are different.
They come off.

Please see attachment for details on removing outer hubcap prior to removing lugs.
Yes their may be only 2 caps. Just look for the little notch in the cap to tell you which ones to remove.

It looks like they removed one that was just decoration. Opps! On my Berkshire there is two real lugs that hold on the cover. They have a small but easy to see dimple on the lug cover. The cover and the lug are one piece.
I tried to remove mine with no luck so I bought it to a truck tire shop. They used a large impact wrench and it struggled. The guy was surprised it came lose he thought it was going to snap the lug. Looking at them they were rusted badly. If you get them off with no damage I would use some anti seize to make it easier to get off next time. I ruined mine and just replaced the wheels wit aluminum wheels. Looks better and preformed better. At least that's what I tell myself to justify the expense. Lol

We showed the tire guys which nuts to loosen and gave them the tool supplied by FR. It stripped/bent the tool to round instead of hexagonal, and with all the tools the tire store has at their disposal, they could not remove the other nut.

The tire store actually put dents in the nut they tried to remove with their other tools. I really do not want to go through expense of new wheels, either.

There are special thin wall deep sockets for mag wheels to take the nuts off. The two or three nuts to take off the wheel liner do have a normal type of nut with a grove that the cover with the dimple attaches to. It sounds like your nuts are very rusty and seized to the lug bolts. I would have them put some penetration oil on the decorative lug nuts while I went down the street to a auto parts store and bought the proper mag wheel removal socket for the job. Strange as it seems tire shops never seem to have the proper tools to work on mag or decorative wheels.

The tire guy got a socket and hammered it onto the nut, and had to use impact wrench to get the nuts off. None of the nuts were rusted on, they all looked nice and clean. Whoever put the wheels on the chassis had to use torque or impact wrench to get them on that tight. The tire guy managed to get the wheel cover off without any damage to it. So thank you all for your input. By the way, the tire guy did not reapply them with torque wrench. Happy trails all! Next stop, Lake Texoma and crappie fishing!

For me and I would guess the OP figuring it out on the side of the road would still be on the service guy. No way am I attempting to change my own tire. As for 2 am that tire would wait till morning. That's the nice thing about having your bed with you. Heck I don't know anyone that carries a spare for the Moho.

The FR supplied tool IS A JOKE, the person in charge of accepting this tool needs to have a new work assignment. EVERY work morning he needs to use this tool till he gets 1 bolt off, then move on to making more BAD/uninformed decisions.

Not torqueing these bolts is a VERY bad idea, we lost 2 on our first trip.
Nobody stocked them in 2013, dealer had lots of spares.
They only weight about a pound each and I would REALLY hate to meet anyone who got hit by one, OUCH  !

22.5" rim lugs require 400-450 ft lbs of torque.

But should the "fake" lug nuts be that tight as well?
EDIT: I would think the cheap tool, so it had been described, would have NO chance with 400ft lbs!

No all they need to be is snug being a few ft lbs only. LOL
The cheap tool is only to take off the two hubcap lug covers.

That's correct Iggy but in my case I am sure that FL Gaffney used a impact driver to put my covers back on. A little rust and they were scrap before we could get them off.
Oh the joys of motor homing. Love it!

Maybe the guy who puts on the 22.5" wheels is a brute. On my 335, I have removed the covers numerous times...both before and after Ford replaced the calipers due to a recall. The light tool is supplied by the rim vendor and not FR. It should only be used to put the two or 3 decorative nuts on and only hand tight at that. The tire guy seems not to know that those aren't real lugs. How many RVs has he worked on?

At least, for us, that is far out weighed by the enjoyment.
