Residential Refrigerator Question

Hello Everyone,

We bought a left over 2014 Georgetown 328 tsf last August. How long can the residential refrigerator be run on the inverter before causing the 2 house batteries to go dead?

We don't have the ability to plug in our Coach prior to leaving on our trip nor would we want to run the generator and wake the neighbors up. We'd love to pack the fridge before we leave home and want to make sure the fridge and freezer is cold enough.

Any thoughts on how long before the fridge/freezer is cold enough and the batteries won't be dead.

probably at least 16 hours if your batteries are good. In addition, unlike LP units, residential fridges cool down really fast, so in a couple of hours you should be fine. I have also put cold food in when I leave and as soon as I start the engine...it will cool from the alternator. Start it when yo put the food in the night before and you should be fine and set to go in the morning...if you don't sleep too long!

Thanks. That's a lot longer than I would of thought. I was figuring 5 or 6 hours at best.

What I have done is to plug the converter into a 110v extension cord and plug that into a house plug.
I keep my converter plugged in while in storage. It keeps the batteries charged and the refridge running.
Just find the converter, unplug it then plug it into a 110 volt receptacle and you are good to go.
Now how long will the batteries last. Great batteries 12 to 16 hours. Not so good batteries 2 to 4 hours.

Interesting. I'll have to check that out. Unfortunately I'm not close enough to run an extension cord.

I just reported on the new Montana using the Samsung fridge. Got 17 hrs off two Interstate cheapie batteries. I was able to pull in the six slides and run some lights off the same charge, but didn't have enough juice left to operate the levelers.

That's pretty good. I would never of thought getting that many hours out of 2 batteries.

You could run the gennie a couple of hours in the evening before your trip to cool it down and then switch over to battery power.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I can run it till 10:00 PM and then switch. We aren't leaving until 9:00 the next morning. Thanks.

Trying to figure out how to plug in via50-20amp adapter to house/garage outlet is your best bet.

I think your 10 pm to 8 am will be a stretch ---but if food is cold you should be ok. When I park my coach up by our house before a trip I just run a 100' extension cord. It works good for us.

I was considering that. Do they make a 50amp to 20amp adapter? I have a 50 to 30 and a 30 to 20. Wonder if I could get away with using 2 adapters or am I asking for trouble.

I thought about that too. I have a 50amp to 30amp adapter and a 30amp to 20amp. I wonder if I can use all of them to plug into the house or am I asking for trouble.

That's what I'd do. I used a 50 to 30 amp converter, then a 30 to 20 converter which terminates in a normal household plug.

We plug in the night before to charge batteries and cool the fridge. I can even run the central vac, just don't turn on the AC!

Worst that can happen is that you will trip your home breaker, which hasn't happened yet.
