Roof recall done

Our 2017 GT5 will be on its way back to us this weekend. Scheduling a short shake down to a nearby state park in a couple weekends to test everything out before our trip this summer. It is supposed to be storming this weekend so we will see pretty quickly if there are still any leaks.

Anything special we should look at post-delivery before signing for it from the driver?

ABSOLUTELY! Climb up on to the roof with a garden hose or something similar and let it rain! The only valid check possible unless you trust LOL your repair facility.

Love to see pictures of your repair. I’ve posted pictures of the mess mine is. The unit just came back from warranty work in Elkhart and nothing changed to the roof seal repair previously done - and leaks continued after that repair.

Got it back from factory yesterday. It’s rained heavy for the last 24 hours and we didn’t get any water in the rv.

Climbed the ladder and it looks like they put a sheet of hard rubber over the top since there is a little flex along the sides. Not sure how else to describe it.

Taking it out in 2 weeks to see how everything is working.

No seam along the sides on top of the rv any more.

Plan to, but I am trying to find the leak spot myself first, if I can fix it myself it will be easier.

Your fiberglass roof was cracking buckling on the edge where it turns down toward the side wall? What’s the recall about? Thanks

As I am talking to FR about this, the recall is to remove the leveling compound, screws and strip along both pax and driver side of roof. Then put down tape, new screws, and reseal. And for that they are only allowing 8-12 hrs at a reduced payment rate to dealers. Guess what type of job they will do.

8-12 hours seems like a reasonable amount of time to me. That's 4-6 hours a side, anyone who knows what they are doing should be able to handle that I would think.

I don't think you can appreciate the level of work required. Everything must come off such as the side awning, all of the sealant removed (should only take 5 minutes-lol), cleaned, everything reassembled w new sealant. done properly 16 hrs at a minimum, but the rv industry never does properly.

And you know this because you’ve done it?

Should I avoid the Gt5

So, straight forward question. I can upgrade from a 2018 315r (subject to the roof recall to an 2018 XL series (not subject to the recall by my research) for $22,000. Assuming equal sat with the floor plans, what would you (everyone) do?
