I have read many posts about the engine A/C compressor going out after about 3 years. A couple weeks ago I noticed a transparent oil leaking from the compressor. I knew my 3yr bumper to bumper Ford warranty was about up and that the A/C compressor had a lot of problems so I called my Ford dealer who told me to bring it in today. The dealer said that it would be about $1,200 to put a new compressor in, recharge the system, etc. Then he said that I was only FOUR days from my warranty ending and Ford will cover the whole thing!! Wow!!

Thanks to all who post on this forum. It is so helpful and educational.

1,200 bucks to replace a compressor? Wow! Glad I can DIY it.

Wow! I wish I would've paid closer attention to my warranty expiration in April because my A/C may be on its way out too. If it goes, won't take it to a Ford dealer though. Also would hope there is an after market compressor vs. the junk Ford uses.

For $1200 I can buy 1 of these
A/C Pro R-134A Recharge Hose and Gauge: Motor Oil, Transmission Fluid & Car Lubricant : Walmart.com

and A LOT OF THESE
Speed Steed R-134a Auto Air Conditioning Refrigerant, 12 oz: Motor Oil, Transmission Fluid & Car Lubricant : Walmart.com

I already have, our "NEW" compressor has already leaked.

I had to change one in year 2000. It was a Chevy chassis Gulfstream class C. It failed mechanically and seized up. I searched around and $1,200 was the best I could find. Installation was minimal, maybe 120. Reason so costly? They are considered "truck" compressors much larger then the Auto many have bought before.
